The Arbor Day Foundation and Stop & Shop have something very important in common — we love planting trees. As a national partner, the Arbor Day Foundation (ADF) is actually helping Stop & Shop achieve a key sustainability goal. This is all thanks to the ADF’s Time for Trees campaign.
With a mission to plant 100 million trees by 2022, Time for Trees focuses on the power trees can have in helping the world address specific and critical environmental issues facing the planet.
To date, Stop & Shop and the Restore program have helped drive the count higher, starting 2021 with almost 37,000 trees planted throughout New England.
An aligned mission

Both Time for Trees and Stop & Shop’s Restore program have the same goal. It’s all about carbon: How to offset its levels in our atmosphere and how to remove it from the air we breathe.
Time for Trees lets the trees do the talking. Reaching their 100 million tree goal means eight million more tons of carbon can get absorbed from the air.
Working as partners, both Stop & Shop Restore and the ADF not only bring attention to the need to think about our environment, but to the actions we can take to help make the air we breathe a little better.
The work of the trees
Investing in trees when your focus is sustainability allows one act to ripple through the environment. Trees not only naturally absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, but they’re an essential piece to urban life.
Our yards, parks, and even the landscaped dividers on our busy streets all benefit from the beautification of trees. As they’re standing tall, trees are also working for us. Within neighborhoods they can help reduce air pollution, lower temperatures, and manage stormwater runoff. Not only that, but they inspire residents to care more about their community.
This sentiment then flows into everyday actions in a way that can encourage people to make environmentally-conscious decisions, such as purchasing gas from a company that gives back.
Restore takes it even further
In New England, it’s Stop & Shop that lets you refuel with a greater purpose in mind. Through the Restore reduced emissions program, fueling up at Stop & Shop means you’re automatically supporting efforts to offset carbon emissions.
Fighting for cleaner air is an uphill battle, but thinking big matters. Stop & Shop is proud to work with the Arbor Day Foundation through Restore. The sheer volume of trees being planted will make an impact. Working together, we’re making a difference, and that’s a partnership worth celebrating.
